Our own little Spice Girl

I really should be waiting until tomorrow so I can post actual Halloween pictures but well, I just happen to have a few minutes right now! The kids are changing and growing so fast, and as we have always known but are realizing more and more, we have a little girl with lots of "personality" and "spice" as we like to say growing up in our family. It makes for some good entertainment and most times we just can't help but squeeze her. A couple weeks ago Mike had to fly to England and Germany for work for 8 days, and wouldn't you know it the kids both came down with some nasty feverish crud. It was not fun for me, and that's when the "spice" really comes out. We survived though, and I really think that sometimes being away from each other really makes us appreciate each other so much more!

We still hear more of the phrase "Uh-UH" (with pouty face and arms folded) from Brooke than anything else, but she really is expanding her vocabulary every day. She's said dada, doggie, juice, shoes, and a few others for a while now. But she's just added book, outside, bye, and....drumroll please....MAMA! I was mailing some stuff at the post office this week, holding her and getting money out of my wallet. She saw my driver's license picture, pointed and said "MAMA!" I think the clerk thought I was crazy for how excited I got. "You don't understand...for like nine months she's been saying dada and calling us both that, this is HUGE!" Ummmmm okay crazy lady.

We found out this week that Ben has been moved out of the pre-school class with all the youngest kids and has been spending half the day with the Pre-K group for reading, and half the day with the kindergarten class in the mornings!! I won't go so far as to say he's BRILLIANT (even though we think he is), but Miss Patty the owner and kindergarten teacher said she's just been so impressed with his "small motor skills, curiosity, and listening" that she wanted to include and "mentor" him with the bigger kids. Sniff, makes his parents so proud. Maybe it has more to do with leveling out class sizes, who knows...but I like the sounds of challenging him! He brought home a book they've been working on at school that's just short 3-letter word sentences, probably about 15 pages, and he read the WHOLE thing word for word! I about fell on the floor. It may just be memorization, but still at the age of 3 1/2 I was pretty impressed and so happy that we've got him going to pre-school. And he really likes it now, as opposed to the first 2-3 months where he cried every day at drop-off. I'm so glad we powered through that!

Well here are a few pictures, I'm sure I'll post more from Halloween festivities!

Ahhhh siblings....

These two have been killin' me lately. Our sweet little Miss Brooke has sprouted QUITE the little attitude in the last week or two and while she's a handful it's so hard to not just laugh really hard when she throws herself on the floor in her dramatic outbursts. And the pouting....the "uh-uh", folds her arms and turns away with her bottom lip sticking out. She's also learned the word "NOOOO!" and like Ben at this age likes to point and wag her finger at the poor victim named Oscar and say "NO NO NO" regardles of what he's doing. I tell ya, it's hard to know what to do with all these girl hormones.

However, just last night she started puckering up her lips really big (we call them her Angelina Jolies) and making kissing sounds....it's awesome. So this morning she goes storming into her brother's room, punching the door open and yells at the foot of his bed, "DADA!" (Mike, myself, and Ben are all "Dada" to her.) Ben they yells, "BROOOOOOK-EEEEE! Leave me alone" but then finally wanders out to curl up on my lap. She continues to pester him by squatting next to us with her big kissy lips pecking away at him. Don't get me wrong, he teases and pesters her just as much, and for the most part she loves the attention but has her limits. Yesterday she nailed him in the face with my phone and today it was the wooden empty dominos box to the nose. I very sternly tell her no and remove her from the situation, but really...what else can you do to punish a 16 month old. Oh! 16 months today in fact! Wow how the time flies, the kids literally change on a weekly basis.

Anyway, Brooke has her 'tude and Ben continues to learn mass amounts of information every day....from school and from pure observation. His little logic makes me laugh, like yesterday he didn't want juice because "juice makes me go poop". He's taken up golf with the REAL metal golf club with snoopy on it that Dad found at a yard sale. Puts the tee in the ground, the hollow plastic (thank god) ball on the tee and WHACK...the kid's got an amazing swing. You should see the big area of dug-up grass it's created....thanks Dad. Well I hoped to include some more funny Ben quotes here but of course now can't think of them. I'll write them down as they come and blog those soon!!

Update Puh-leeeaaase!

Wow all I have to say is poor Brooke. Poor, poor Brooke. I dug out my journal last night and loved reading all about what Ben was doing at this age, pretty much on a monthly basis. My poor daughter is almost 14 months old and what have I written about her and her accomplishments? Well, nothing. Pretty much. So, I would like to take some time here to just write about what our awesome little girl is up to these days, so that I have some sort of record! First of all, she's tough. She's so fearless and a total daredevil compared to her 3+year old brother. Which of course between that and mom being much less on top of things with a second child has resulted in lots of bumps and bruises! But, she survives and forges on. The teeth. Ohhhh the teeth. A month or two ago she had I think (i think...again with the second child syndrome, with Ben i knew each tooth to the day) 4 top and 4 bottom, and now all her i-teeth (i? eye?) and molars are sprouting through at the same time. She opens up wide with one of her deep belly laughs and you just see erupting gums, and yet she's happy and sleeps well...most of the time. I tell you...tough! She's independent but thank God snuggly at the same time, whatever would mom do without the snuggles. She eats like a horse, all the time and anything in sight, as evident by the belly. She can walk, she's taken plenty of consecutive steps, but just chooses to crawl because it's so much faster! She'll get there soon. She only says a few words, "dada, mama, uh-oh, and duck", but chatters all the time in Brooke-inese and can definitely get her point across with her expressions and little pointer finger. Reading about Ben just reminded me how drastically things will change in just 3 or 4 months, and I love it and dread it at the same time! At least I have photos, we all know I take plenty of photos! Here's to our Brooke, our Weebs, our Biz. We love you!

Brooke's 1st Birthday

We had the most wonderful family get-together for Brooke's birthday on Mother's Day this year. Melissa and Mindy were in town so it was awesome to have all grandparents and aunties there! As usual it was bittersweet for me, so excited that my baby is one and developing and doing new things every day, but also sad that she'll never be this little again! She's not walking yet, but is cruising and standing well on her own, so it should be soon. She loves to play with her brother and always wants to be wherever he is, which lately is outside playing! She is usually so happy and goofy and we love her more every day, but last weekend she came down with a stomach bug and the poor thing has been so miserable this week. But, right now she's napping and I'm home from work with her and have a chance to update our blog as a result! :) Here are some pics, it's tough to choose! Happy first birthday to our wonderful daughter we love so much!

Goin' Places

And, once I got her turned around she goes back....
